1000 Lincolnshire children get a taste of industry at Construction Week 2019
From 1-3 October over 1000 students from Lincolnshire schools took part in hands-on activities to get a taste of what life is like in the construction industry during Construction Week, a three day event at The Lincolnshire Showground.
The event takes place each year and is designed to raise awareness to the diverse range of careers available in the construction industry. Organised by The Lincoln Group Training Association (LGTA) in partnership with The EBP and Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), the event brings together businesses and schools from across the county.
Throughout the week, the event had support from over 30 businesses. Each one provided a host of hands-on activities to encourage and inform students about the construction industry. There were over 1000 students who participated in the activities that ranged from reciprocal roof construction to operating mini diggers and surveying.
All the activities were designed to give the students a taster into the varied careers that are available whilst also giving them a better understanding of the construction industry.
The free event continues to be popular and the opportunity allows schools and businesses to forge relationships and learn real skills from the construction industry. Last year 70% of students who attended the event felt more aware of employment opportunities available in construction.
