Building skills for work and life on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
National Citizen Service (NCS) is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that helps young people build skills for work and life while taking on new challenges and meeting new friends. Through the programme, 16 and 17 year olds can develop the tools to unlock their potential and make a positive impact in their communities. Joining with local businesses and social leaders, they learn new skills and discover more about their area by delivering local projects that matter to them.
Taking place over several weeks during the summer or autumn half term, the programme features a short time away from home and a project in the local community. A focus on social mixing, regular guided reflection and social action projects led by young people, makes NCS a unique and fulfilling experience.
NCS continues to support my career as a teacher through opportunities to work with young people and to remind me that not all achievements have to happen in a classroom. I applied because of the opportunity it gave me to work with young people in a non-school setting. I’ve been 2x SEN Mentor, 1x Mentor, 2x Lead Mentor and 2x Cohort Lead.
